Description

This dataset presents information on almost 350 'candidate clones' who were fielded in Ukrainian parliamentary elections from 2002 to 2019. Main sources of information used in the preparation of the dataset: Ukraine's Central Election Commission (cvk.gov.ua), ukr.vote, chesno.org, oporaua.org. The purpose of fielding clones is to confuse voters by presenting them with candidates whose names are identical or similar to the names of real politicians participating in the same elections. There are also 'party clones,' whose names in fact tend to be different from those of their targets (serious candidates). Scores of party clones ran in the 2019 Rada elections, and they pretended to be representatives and employees of organizations that mimicked Zelenskyy's Sluha narodu (Servant of the People) party.
