A collection of media, expert and academic reports and official documents
Version 1.0, published: May 11, 2025.
Description
This literature database was created as part of the project "The Former Soviet States and European Security " (GUSTL) at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies (BIOst) in Cologne in cooperation with the Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA / Chatham House)..” The responsible heads of the project were Hans-Henning Schröder (BIOst) and Roy Allison (RIIA). The project was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation from 1994 to 1996. After completion of the project, the data collection was continued as part of the ongoing work.
The research project examined foreign and security policies of the newly independent states on the territory of the former Soviet Union. To facilitate the evaluation of the wealth of material that was collected, the relevant publications were recorded in a literature database. The database contains bibliographic information on monographs, anthologies, journal articles, newspaper articles and 'grey literature' that are relevant to the project topic. The database contains a total of 11,319 documents, most published from the late 1980s up to 2021.
The bibliographic data were recorded in the catalogue. The thesaurus allows to search by thematic criteria, and it is also possible to search by persons or organizations, as well as for a particular author or publication date and a number of other criteria.
This data set contains the complete catalogue as an XML file (“GUSTL-Katalog.xml”). The complete thesaurus, which contains all the terms used to describe the individual documents, is also part of the data collection as a separate text file (“GUSTL-Thesaurus.pdf”).
The original documents are archived at the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen and are accessible on-site. The contact person is Heiko Pleines (pleines@uni-bremen.de).
