Assessment of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) Reform by Teachers
Representative survey of 600 teachers of grades 5–6, conducted across eight regions of Ukraine from October to November 2023
Version 1.0, published: April 30, 2025.
Description
The dataset comprises the results of a representative survey of 600 teachers of grades 5–6, conducted across eight regions of Ukraine from 23 October to 15 November 2023. The survey forms part of a broader study carried out by the NGO Smart Education in cooperation with the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Centre of Political Sociology, with the participation of the Institute of Educational Analytics, the NGO Re:Education, and the analytical centre OsvitaAnalytics at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University.
The survey explores the attitudes of teachers of grades 5–6 towards the implementation of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) reform. Topics include participation in targeted in-service training for teaching in grades 5–6 under the NUS; evaluations of new curricula, textbooks and assessment systems; experiences with online teaching and the measurement of learning loss; teachers’ emotional well-being; and challenges encountered during the implementation of the NUS.
The dataset is available in SPSS (.sav) format in both Ukrainian and English. It has also been exported to an Excel (.xlsx) file, which is identical in content to the original SAV file. The research methodology and questionnaire are available in the Documentation section (PDF files) in both English and Ukrainian. The full English-language study on the implementation of the New Ukrainian School reform during the adaptation cycle of basic secondary education (grades 5–6)—based on data from the dataset, teacher interviews, and expert analysis—can be found in the Results section (PDF files).
