Description

The original dataset of deceased members of the Ukrainian volunteer battalions who perished in combat or combat-related engagements during the Donbas War (2014-2021). The dataset consists of 1,123 data entries, coding all deceased members of Territorial Defense, Special Purpose Police, and other volunteer battalions. This dataset is coded from the "Memory Book" project, accessible at: https://memorybook.org.ua/.

The dataset contains information on 1,123 pro-government volunteers who took part in the ATO/JFS between 13 April 2014 and 1 December 2021, representing some 25% of the total number of the Ukrainian casualties in Donbas War. The obituary data is comprehensive, including all pro-government battle-deaths. The dataset was coded from obituaries of all members of the volunteer Territorial Defence (TrO) battalions (32), paramilitary Special Purpose Police battalions (23) and pro-government militias (9).
