Assessment by the Local Population and National Minorities of the Socio-Political Situation in Zakarpattia (2020)
Regional public opinion survey from 24 August to 6 September 2020
Version 1.0, published: Aug. 2, 2025.
Description
A representative survey was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the Centre for Political Sociology from 24 August to 6 September 2020.
The surveys include questions assessing how the local population and national minorities perceive the socio-political situation in Zakarpattia – in particular, the influence of local elites and foreign governments, attitudes towards language policy and decentralisation, media consumption habits, views on multiple citizenship, and migration intentions.
A total of 1,000 respondents were interviewed face-to-face: 500 respondents from a representative sample of the Zakarpattia region (covering 6 cities and 15 villages), and 500 respondents from national minority communities (including 300 Hungarians and 200 representatives of Roma, Romanian, and Slovak communities) in areas of compact settlement.
Both samples are representative by gender, age, type of settlement, and area of residence. The maximum sampling error (excluding the additional sample of national minorities and the design effect) does not exceed 4.4% at a 95% confidence level.
The datasets include the original survey data in SPSS (.sav) format, available in both Ukrainian and English, with separate files for the local population and national minorities. Identical data have also been exported to Excel (.xlsx) format. The survey methodology and questionnaire are provided in the "Documentation" section (PDF files) in both English and Ukrainian. The survey results are available in the "Results" section (PDF file) in Ukrainian.
